Panasonic L-Mount Lens Guide: The Complete & Updated List (2024)

by JoBurg 27 Feb 2025

Understanding the Lens Names:

Before we dive in, let's quickly decode the Panasonic lens naming conventions:

  • S: Indicates a lens designed for the full-frame Lumix S series.
  • R: In the designations, it seems it generally refers to lenses that are more red-line focused, sometimes with constant apertures, but not always.
  • E: Seems to designate that the lens has a constant aperture.
  • Numbers (e.g., 18, 24-70): These represent the focal length (or focal length range) of the lens in millimeters. Smaller numbers are wider angles, larger numbers are telephoto.
  • Number after Dash (1.8, 4, 2.8-5.6): Represent the maximun aperture.

Key Lens Categories:

  • Prime Lenses: These lenses have a fixed focal length. They often offer wider maximum apertures (lower f-numbers like f/1.4, f/1.8) which are excellent for low-light photography and creating shallow depth of field (blurred backgrounds). Panasonic offers a strong range of f/1.8 primes. And one manual Focus F/8 prime.
  • Wide-Angle Zoom Lenses: These are ideal for landscapes, architecture, and real estate photography.
  • Standard Zoom Lenses: These versatile lenses cover a range suitable for everyday photography, from wide-angle to short telephoto.
  • Telephoto Zoom: Good for sports and animals, getting close to far away objects.
  • Superzoom Lenses: These lenses offer a huge focal length range, providing maximum versatility in a single lens, often sacrificing some image quality and aperture for convenience.
